Economy Puts Hawaiian Race in the Pits
The Hawaiian Super Prix, a $1-million winner-take-all motor race scheduled for Jan. 24 in Honolulu, has been postponed for a year.
“Due to the current status of the global economy and effect it has had on our sponsorship efforts, we have chosen to postpone the (race) until early 1994,” chairman Bill Marcel said. “The event is being rescheduled, not canceled. Several million dollars in capital expenditures have already been invested by our partnership. . . . and the entire 1.3-mile circuit has been paved.”
The race was to bring together 16 drivers from Indy cars, Formula One, NASCAR and other forms of racing in a 100-mile race in Shelby Can-Am cars.
