* * 1/2 Dizzy Gillespie, “The Dizzy Gillespie Big 7,” OJC. The gems on this four-track jam session date recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1975 are found in “Lover, Come Back to Me” and “I’ll Remember April,” when the trio of pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen and drummer Mickey Roker take over. There, Flanagan and Pedersen deliver solos that whirl and twirl like a champion ice skater roaring around the rink, overshadowing their estimable cohorts--Gillespie, saxophonists Johnny Griffin and Eddie (Lockjaw) Davis and vibist Milt Jackson--who still get in their fair share of hot licks.
