Amtrak said Monday it has begun testing a high-speed train in its quest to cut the travel time on the Boston-New York-Washington corridor.

The train, which can reach speeds of 155 m.p.h. on conventional track, is being put through its paces without passengers on a 68-mile stretch between Philadelphia and Lancaster, Pa., said Amtrak spokesman Clifford Black. Passengers will get a chance to try the train on a New York-to-Washington route by February.
