Lloyd Turner; Cartoon Writer

Lloyd Turner, who helped create Rocky, Bullwinkle, Crusader Rabbit and many other early animated television characters, died Monday of cancer in Shady Cove, Ore. He was 68.

Turner started in the cartoon industry at Warner Bros. in 1944, writing Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoons.

Collaborating with Jay Ward in 1949, he helped create the first television cartoon show, “Crusader Rabbit.” He later wrote and directed the “Time for Beany” television puppet show.

In 1959, he returned to work for Ward writing for the popular “Rocky and His Friends” and “The Bullwinkle Show” cartoon programs.
