TOPANGA CANYON : County Grants Permit to Elysium Fields Nudist Camp

The county Regional Planning Commission ended a 21-year battle this week by approving a conditional use permit that allows the eight-acre Elysium Fields nudist resort to stay open.
“I’m absolutely delighted this long, arduous journey or process is over and the commission allowed us to be properly permitted,” said Ed Lange, executive director of the nonprofit Elysium Institute, the resort operator.
The permit includes more than two dozen conditions designed to address concerns over fire safety, noise, traffic and other issues. After the permit was granted, planning Commissioner Richard C. Wulliger said: “It’s been given serious review in two hearings and a field trip. I don’t think the conditions are unreasonable.”
Elysium Fields, a longtime haven for people who prefer life in the buff, has been a thorn in the side for a faction of residents who claim that the resort detracts from the rustic community 25 miles west of Los Angeles.
