Women and the Catholic Church
Your article “New Vatican Catechism Updates 1566 Version” (Nov. 17) really got my attention. To say you let all of your anti-Catholicism hang out in one article would be a mild statement.
Let’s take one very long sentence to start with. “Venerable injunctions against sex outside of marriage, artificial birth control, divorce and homosexuality are joined by newfangled thou-shalt-nots deploring the likes of drunk driving, tax evasion and abuse in genetic engineering.” Wow! Sarcasm hanging out all over this sentence. I looked up the word newfangled in Webster’s New World Dictionary. Here is what it said: “new, novel, a contemptuous term.”
Perhaps your problem is in translating from the French that the document was written in, into English. I noted your article said the English version would not be available until next spring.
