WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : USC Loses Lead, Game to DePaul

Ninth-ranked USC blew a lead in the game’s closing minutes as Rita Hale led DePaul to a 62-54 victory in the finals of the Coopers and Lybrand Invitational tournament in Chicago on Saturday.

The Trojans (1-1) led, 51-48, with 3:54 to play before DePaul reeled off 12 consecutive points to lead, 60-51, with 12 seconds remaining in a game in which the lead changed hands seven times in the second half.

Hale scored four of her 17 points during DePaul’s 12-0 run.

USC’s Lisa Leslie was named the tournament’s most valuable player. She scored 21 points and had 17 rebounds and six blocks in the final.

Southwest Texas 69, Cal State Long Beach 50--Alison Moyes scored 20 points and took 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (3-0) to the championship of the Southwest Texas Women’s Classic in San Marcos, Tex.

Marsheela Harriston led Long Beach (1-2) with 14 points.
