Share

A Thousand Oaks bookstore was robbed Sunday of about $750 by an armed man who left two employees with their hands bound, then fled from the shopping center where the store is located, authorities said.

The suspect, described as a man in his 50s with gray hair and wearing a blue jacket, walked into the B. Dalton bookstore on Westlake Boulevard about 10:30 a.m., shortly after the store opened. According to a sheriff’s report, he drew a small-caliber weapon and ordered an employee, Jennifer Stillman, 22, into the rear of the store.

In the back room, the suspect encountered assistant manager Debra Lee, 28, and ordered that the store’s safe be opened. He then took about $750 from the safe, a cash register and the two employees, the report said.
