A 79-year-old man was booked on suspicion of murder Sunday after he allegedly stabbed to death a 24-year-old man after an argument at Westminster Lanes bowling alley, police said.

The victim and suspect argued about 5:30 p.m. in the lounge of the bowling alley at 6471 Westminster Blvd. when the older man drew a knife and stabbed the younger man once in the chest, Westminster Police Sgt. Dave Stronach said. The reason for the argument was not immediately known.

Bowling alley employees called the police. The older man, Eddie Moore of Santa Ana, “was standing there when the officers arrived and identified himself as the perpetrator,” Stronach said.

“We have tons of witnesses and (investigators) have got a lot of people to interview,” Stronach said. “This place is not a low-life place. We’ve had very minimal problems in there. I think it took everybody by surprise.”

The two men apparently did not know each other, Stronach said, and the victim was believed to be unarmed.

The victim, John Moore of Huntington Beach, who is unrelated to the suspect, was pronounced dead on arrival at Humana Hospital-Huntington Beach, police said.

Three hours after the stabbing, the suspect, who uses a cane to walk, was sleeping in a cell at Westminster Police Department’s jail, Stronach said.

“The detectives haven’t talked to him yet,” he said.
