Datametrics Profit Surges 75% in 4th Quarter

Cost-cutting efforts and a lower effective tax rate helped Datametrics Corp. post a 75% surge in fiscal fourth-quarter profit despite a 3% decline in revenue.

The Chatsworth producer of rugged printers, keyboards and other computer-related gear for the military and industrial markets said net income in the quarter that ended Oct. 25 jumped to $475,000 from $272,000 a year earlier.

The company’s revenue fell to $6.10 million from $6.26 million.

Datametrics said the profit gain also reflected its growing shift away from military customers. In fiscal 1992, its U. S. defense revenue dropped to 72% of its total revenue from 96% the prior year.
