Cudahy : Special Election to Be Held On Ouster of Councilman

Share

The City Council on Monday night voted to hold a special election March 16 on whether Councilman John O. Robertson Jr. should be removed from office.

Robertson cast the only vote against the election date. His four council colleagues say they want the 16-year council veteran out of office because he continuously votes against programs they believe are needed in the city, including additional funding for the Sheriff’s Department, monthly food giveaways and senior programs.

Council members Alex Rodriguez, Joseph Graffio, David Silva and Mayor Jack Cluck led a recall drive that netted more than 800 signatures, enough to force a recall election. Officials said the election will cost the city nearly $15,000.

Cluck and Graffio also are targets of a recall campaign launched last summer by Robertson ally Larry Galvan, a onetime council candidate. Galvan’s drive has failed to generate enough signatures for an election.

Robertson said the other council members are seeking his ouster because he opposes “excessive spending” by the council.
