Burglars Take It All--Including the Kitchen Sink

Some unusually thorough burglars gained entry into a brand-new home in Saugus and took everything they could carry--including the kitchen sink.

Burglars raided the unoccupied house in the 28000 block of Woodside Drive of more than $4,000 worth of items, ranging from appliances as large as a dishwasher to fixtures as small as a polished brass shower head, said Lt. Harvey Cantor of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

There were no signs of forced entry, he said.

“This could range from somebody who’s remodeling his house to professionals who take everything they can and then sell the items on the open market,” Cantor said.

Other items taken were four chandeliers, a double oven and microwave, a gas range, an overhead exhaust fan, a garbage disposal, an intercom system, a central vacuum system, a glass shower door enclosure, a polished brass wet bar, a sink faucet, two sink drains and, of course, the kitchen sink, Cantor said.

“There is a lot of theft in the construction industry of new homes under construction,” he said.

“The homes are left unguarded and therefore unscrupulous people come by, usually in the wee hours of the morning, to steal.”

Cantor said it is possible that a truck was driven into the garage of the house and that the appliances and other fixtures were loaded onto the vehicle.

The burglars even remembered to take their fingerprints with them, Cantor added.
