SANTA ANA — An ice cream vendor was recovering from stab wounds Wednesday after he refused to hand over his money to a would-be robber, police said Wednesday.
Jose Zavala, 36, of Santa Ana was stabbed twice in the back in central Santa Ana about 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said. A man with a knife approached Zavala at 3rd and Hesperian streets and demanded money, said Maureen Haacker, a spokeswoman for the Police Department.
Zavala refused and was stabbed, Haacker said. Paramedics took Zavala to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed in stable condition, a spokeswoman said.
The attacker rode off on a bicycle without any of Zavala’s money, Haacker said. Police did not have a description of the man.
