SANTA ANA : City OKs $6.5 Million for Street Projects

Share

The City Council has approved $6.5 million to refurbish streets that are deteriorating due to weather, age and heavy traffic.

Council members on Monday unanimously approved as part of its routine consent calendar eight street-repair projects. Federal funds will pay for about $5.5 million of the cost, with the rest paid by the city, said Souri Amirani, senior civil engineer.

“You’re going to see a lot of new pavement and you’ll have a smoother ride. (With) better drainage, hopefully we won’t have floods anymore in our city streets,” she said.

Some of the work will begin in January and be completed by the end of the year. Other projects will be staggered to reduce traffic problems, Amirani said.

One resurfacing project targets streets in two areas of the city. The first is bounded roughly by 17th Street to the north, McFadden Avenue to the south, Tustin Avenue to the east and Grand Avenue to the west. The other area is roughly bounded by Edinger Avenue to the north, Dyer Road and Segerstrom Avenue to the south, Main Street to the east and Raitt Street to the west.

Other projects will refurbish 1st Street between Newhope Street and Harbor Boulevard, Santa Ana Boulevard between Raitt and Flower streets, MacArthur Boulevard between Harbor Boulevard and Bristol Street, Segerstrom Avenue from Harbor to Fairview Street.

Streets also included will be Flower from Sunflower Avenue to Edinger and Grand from Dyer to Edinger.
