PALMDALE : Water District Votes to Raise Rates

Share

The Palmdale Water District has approved a rate increase, which means that most of the district’s 20,000 customers will pay about 25% more for water starting in January.

The water district’s five-member board of directors voted 4 to 1 to adopt the increase at a Tuesday night meeting. The district serves the east side of Palmdale and surrounding unincorporated areas.

District officials said the increase was needed to help cover an expected operating deficit of about $1.6 million and to help pay for a $12-million upgrading of Littlerock Dam.

The increase raises the monthly minimum rate of $6.65 for 700 cubic feet to $9.75.

District officials said a typical residential customer now paying about $19 a month will pay about $24 a month. The district last increased rates in November, 1990.
