Christmas Tree Recycling

For the second year, the city will sponsor a Christmas tree recycling program to reduce yard and garden waste in area landfills.

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, which encourages such programs, views the tree recovery effort as a pilot program for possible full-scale separation and collection of all residential green wastes, which represents about 12% of the county’s refuse. If collected separately, the matter can be composted for soil supplement or used as mulch.

The tree collection service will be provided at no charge by Waste Management Inc. at two sites, Lambert Park, 11431 McGirk Ave., and the Vons market at Garvey and Merced avenues on Jan. 2 and Jan. 9.
