TIJUANA : Architect Schools Start Exchange Plan
College students in Tijuana and San Diego will begin joint architectural studies under an agreement signed Monday between the San Diego Community College District and the Universidad Iberoamericana of Tijuana.
The agreement calls for architectural departments at the Tijuana institution and at San Diego’s Mesa College to begin a number of exchange projects, which could include student design and construction of low income housing in both countries. There will be joint programs in computer-aided drafting and related technology as well.
The architecture department dean at Universidad Iberoamericana, Manuel Morrison, has designed the Tijuana Cultural Center, the Japanese Embassy in Mexico City, and a housing complex for Warren College students at UC San Diego.
Carl Strona, architecture professor at Mesa College--where there are 738 students in the program--said the agreement will bring new perspectives to design for both campuses.
