Shirley Carey has been elected president of the Huntington Beach City School District Board of Trustees.

Carey, a nursing consultant and community health educator, is starting her third year on the board. She succeeds Edison High School Principal Brian Garland as board president.

Also during ceremonies last week, two trustees were sworn in to new four-year terms: Catherine McGough, vice principal of the adult and alternative high school in Huntington Beach Union High School District, and Brian Rechsteiner, marketing manager for Mobil Oil Corp.
