Free-agent catcher Terry Steinbach of the Oakland Athletics agreed to a four-year, $14-million deal with the team, rejecting a more lucrative offer from the New York Yankees.

Steinbach, 30, batted .279 last season, his best average since his rookie year. He said that loyalty to the A’s made him say no to the Yankees, who offered about $3 million more.
