Glendale : Safe Rides for Teen-Agers
The Glendale Safe Rides program is again helping area teen-agers get home safely on Friday and Saturday nights.
Teen-agers who find themselves stranded, unable to drive, or with friends who are not driving safely, can call (818) 244-RIDE (7433) between 10 p.m and 3 a.m., and a student volunteer will dispatch a cab from the Checker Cab Co. for a free ride home.
The program has been operating since 1986, usually stopping during the summer because of the perception that it is not needed then, according to Donna Metzler of the city manager’s office. She said this year’s program is set to run indefinitely.
The program is sponsored by the Glendale Youth Commission, Checker Cab Co., the Verdugo Hills Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Glendale Kiwanis.
