NORWALK : Grinch Steals Christmas Tree From Woman’s Lawn
- Share via
A thief apparently looking for a Christmas tree chopped down and carted off a five-foot blue spruce from the Norwalk yard of May Nemec, 80.
The missing tree, which was felled before dawn Monday, was a replacement donated by a local nursery last year after thieves axed an 18-foot blue spruce planted in the yard 25 years ago by her late husband.
Now she’s thinking of going for cactus. “I’m not giving anybody any more free trees,” said Nemec, a retired nurse.
“It’s basically a whodunit to the Christmas tree,” said Lt. Jim Pendergist of the Norwalk sheriff’s station.
“I feel bad I can’t have a tree I like,” Nemec said, “but I can’t get depressed over it.”
