Share

Barbara G. Hammerman, who was recently reelected to a third term on the North Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees, was elected board president at the annual organizational meeting.

The seven-member board governs and determines budgets for Fullerton and Cypress colleges. It also oversees four adult education centers in Anaheim, Yorba Linda, Fullerton and Cypress. Students may also study for their high school diplomas at the adult education centers. About 73,000 students take classes in the district colleges each year.

Hammerman is managing director of the GroveShakespeare Festival and is working on a national voter registration drive. As part of that drive she will work with student leaders at Fullerton and Cypress colleges next year to increase student voting and improve students’ understanding of citizenship.

Trustees Leonard L. Lahtinen and Chris Loumakis, both incumbents, were also sworn in. Trustee Otto J. Lacayo was elected secretary.
