In response to the Dec. 6 article, “Hearing Seen as Positive for Playa Vista,” I would like to voice my fears relating to this proposal of a massive development on the last open land in the Westside of Los Angeles. My neighborhood, the Del Rey section of Los Angeles, is located immediately adjacent to the area where the first phase of the project is to be constructed.

The project is simply too large and dense. Increase in traffic, pollution and elimination of open space are my major concerns. Obviously there is and should be development, but Playa Vista as planned is simply overwhelming as far as the quality of life in the surrounding communities is concerned. We, the neighbors of Playa Vista, voted Councilwoman Pat Russell out of office because of our concerns regarding unchecked growth in the area. Ruth Galanter so far has not openly opposed the Playa Vista project.

Do we need more gridlock, pollution, noise and crowding? Some is obviously unavoidable, but having this monster, the city within a city, unfold and not trying to curtail it will have disastrous consequences for its neighbors.
