BREA : Panel Applications Deadline Extended

Share

The City Council has extended the deadline for submitting applications to serve on the city’s various committees and commissions to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The action came after the council adopted an ordinance Tuesday providing for the manner in which committee members and commissioners are appointed and removed from office. A key provision of the ordinance was the ban on immediate relatives of members of the council from serving on those commissions and committees.

Appointments or reappointments will be made for the Planning, Cultural Arts, Parks, Recreation and Human Services commissions, the Brea Foundation, Brea Beautification Committee and the Brea Historical Committee.

The Planning Commission advises the council on land use and planning legislation, decides on state law applications and generally handles building and development matters.

Recreational and leisure programming are handled by the Parks, Recreation and Human Services Commission, while the Cultural Arts Commission promotes cultural arts activities and assures cultural facilities are maintained properly.

The Brea Foundation is a nonprofit organization that manages certain city properties and other income projects. The Beautification Committee helps provide programs to keep the city clean.

The Historical Committee advises the council on matters relating to historical preservation and promoting public awareness of the city’s history.
