MOORPARK : 2 Teens Arrested in Vandalism, Threats
Two Moorpark teen-agers were arrested Monday on suspicion of vandalism and making terrorist threats against a sheriff’s deputy after authorities found graffiti painted on cars parked at the Moorpark Metrolink lot and on nearby walls.
Witnesses reported seeing the 14-year-old boys painting gang graffiti on 10 vehicles at the Metrolink parking lot at 320 High St. about 3:30 p.m., said Sheriff’s Sgt. Marty Rouse.
The youths then moved to a public alley at 1st Street and Moorpark Avenue, where they left more graffiti, including the words “187 Nelson,” Rouse said. That is considered a threat to Deputy Ronald Nelson, a sheriff’s gang specialist assigned to the Moorpark area, because 187 is the penal code identification for murder, he said.
At least one of the teen-agers also marred nearby Flory Elementary School with various types of graffiti, Rouse said.
The suspects, who attend Chaparral Middle School in Moorpark, are members of a local gang, said Lt. George Conahey.
