OUTLOOK

Christensen returns to coach her second season at El Toro after leaving last season to coach at Rancho Santiago College, which didn’t have enough players to field a team this year. Christensen coached the Chargers to a 19-7 record, a South Coast League championship and into the playoff quarterfinals in 1990-91. Last season, the Chargers fell on hard times (7-15) under Ricardo Brown, who resigned. Christensen plans to build the offense around Watson, a three-year varsity letter winner who averaged seven assists last season at point guard. Reyes and Fegel also bring two years of varsity experience to the Chargers. Bruce, a sophomore guard, and Sharp, a senior forward, are listed by Christensen as two of the newcomers who show the most potential. The Chargers have the quickness to be a solid defensive and fast-breaking team. Among Christensen’s top concerns are a lack of significant height and experience to stay with the top teams in the league. She is also looking for some outside shooters to keep opposing defenses honest. Christensen realizes that she does not have the talent and experience to challenge Capistrano Valley for the championship, so has set a more modest goal of a third-place finish.
