A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the past week.

CITY COUNCIL

L.A. AIRPORT: Approved a proposal by Ruth Galanter to immediately collect $8.7 million that the Department of Airports owes the city. The city had under-billed the department over the past nine years for city services.

HISTORIC: Approved a request to include the theme building (exterior and lobby only) at Los Angeles International Airport in the city’s list of historic-cultural monuments.

SETTLEMENT: Approved spending $337,000 to pay the balance owed on a judgment in connection with the construction of a fire station at 4961 Melrose Ave. in Hollywood.

PUBLIC PARKING: Approved increasing the budget for the design and construction of a public parking garage at 1710 N. Cherokee Ave. in Hollywood from $3.6 million to $4.3 million and to use money collected from parking meters to finance the project.

HOLLYWOOD HIGH: Approved a $25,000 grant to refurbish the school auditorium at Hollywood High School, where a series of “Grammy Week” events are scheduled for Feb. 3 for Los Angeles high school students.

HOW THEY VOTED

How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.

POLICE DEPARTMENT: Approved a proposal authorizing the chief of police to negotiate a contract with Motorola Inc. to replace and upgrade the department’s telecommunications system. The proposed cost of the project is $8 million. Passed: 13-0.

VOTING YES: Marvin Braude, John Ferraro, Ruth Galanter, Nate Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Michael Woo. Zev Yaroslavsky was absent.

CONSTRUCTION: Approved a proposal to spend up to $112,500 annually for environmental review of small vacant lots throughout the city to develop them into affordable housing. Passed: 13-0.

VOTING YES: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Ridley-Thomas, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Holden was absent.
