O.C. PLATFORM : A Fireworks Foe

I hope that this is not a trend in Southern California. We have seen through ordinances that prohibit the sale and discharge of safe and sane fireworks tremendous reductions in fire loss and injuries. I hope that Stanton will not adopt the ordinance when it comes back and that other cities that still allow the sale of safe and sane fireworks will reconsider their position.

The fund-raising capabilities of various charitable organizations are certainly issues to be considered, but there are other ways for them to raise funds. In the Stanton area, in particular, if you listened to what was presented at the City Council meeting, it would be easy to come away with the thought that fireworks were a significant factor in the fund-raising capabilities of a couple of the local groups. But it makes up less than 1% of the fund raising.

So, it really comes down to whether the extra effort to raise funds through some other fashion is more important than the safety of our children and our property.
