OAK PARK : Oak Hills Named Blue Ribbon School
Oak Hills School in Oak Park has been named a National Blue Ribbon school for academic excellence by the U. S. Department of Education.
Oak Hills is one of 19 schools statewide to receive the national award, officials said. A total of 36 California schools competed for the honor.
“School officials are thrilled,” said Cathy Skiba, director of student services for the Oak Park Unified School District.
The elementary school was chosen for the award because students received high scores on standardized reading and math tests taken in the spring, officials said. About 350 students in second through fifth grades were tested.
Of those, about 87% earned above-average scores in math.
