Who Are the Illegals?
In response to Xochitl Rodriquez and his letter on the term “illegal alien” (“Term Should Be Dropped,” Times Valley Edition Letters, Dec. 20), all my life I have heard people of Mexican heritage say that when the Americans stole the southwestern portion of the United States, it was wrong.
They are right. However, I have never heard a person of Mexican heritage tell me that when Mexico stole the land from the Indians that it had done anything wrong. If the land was returned to its rightful owners, it would not be to Mexico, it would be to the Native Americans. However, we are quickly approaching the year 2000. We can either work toward what made this nation strong--many peoples from different cultures working together for the common good--or we can split along ethnic lines, like Yugoslavia.
California and six other western states are now a part of the United States of America. If you are here illegally, you are an illegal alien.
