The Burbank-based company produces television programs, mostly award specials and reality-based shows for the ABC, NBC,CBS and Fox broadcast networks. A new venture develops videotapes, films and live presentations for companies to use as training, motivational or sales tools. The company was founded in 1957 to capitalize on owner Dick Clark’s notoriety as host of the “American Bandstand” music and dance program, and it first sold stock to the public in 1987. The company is now expanding into industrial film production. Its efforts to diversity beyond entertainment production, however, has been disappointing. Dick Clark has tried to use its association with Rock ‘n’ Roll in its two ‘50s-style restaurants, called American Bandstand Grills. As of June, 1992, the restaurants were losing money, but company officials say they are now profitable.
