Readers responded with sincerity, wit and, occasionally, vehemence to our queries for their assessments of the best and worst in pop music, theater, art, classical music and dance in Orange County in 1992. Here is some of what they had to say:
*
My two favorite 1992 productions:
* “Hamlet” (Shakespeare Orange County). Incredibly moving and thoughtful performances by all the actors. One of the best Shakespeare productions I’ve ever seen.
* “Our Country’s Good” (South Coast Repertory). Beautiful staging, excellent acting and an unusually well-written play.
Most disappointing:
“Macbeth” (GroveShakespeare). The leading lady (Joan Van Ark) seemed to have Lady Macbeth confused with Scarlett O’Hara. Most of the other members of the cast were flat, indistinguishable from each other (dressing them all alike didn’t help) and frequently inaudible. The role of Macbeth was decently performed (by David Birney), keeping the play from being a total disaster.
