Hire a Casting Director

Share

Perhaps part of the problem Bruce Jay Reisman writes about is not agents or “cocky assistants” (“ ‘Little Movies’ Offer Good Female Roles--Just Take a Look,” Nov. 23). In my 30-plus years of dealing with agents, I’ve yet to meet an agent who would not at least listen to any legitimate offer, including low-budget ones--especially these days if the offer involved a decent role for a female!

The difficulties usually occur when, in a misguided effort to save money, a casting director is either not hired or one is hired solely on the basis of fee. An experienced casting director, whose job it is to know the agents and the current marketplace (like who might be interested in what role and whom to deal with at the agency for that actor), will save a producer time and effort and spare him some of the difficulties Reisman encountered.JOE REICH,
