Video Magic: Elvis Lives! Or, at least the master tape of a 1973 concert survives, and that will allow him to be seen performing Saturday with the Memphis Symphony. The concert will use the same kind of technological wizardry that finds Groucho Marx selling soft drinks on TV with Paula Abdul and Natalie Cole and Hank Williams Jr. singing duets with their long-dead fathers. As Elvis, on a large video screen, croons “American Trilogy” from his 1973 concert in Hawaii, the Memphis orchestra will play and his former backup singers will take their accustomed roles. The concert is part of a three-day celebration of his 58th birthday Friday. The hoopla includes the release of a 29-cent Elvis postage stamp that goes on sale that day.
