OXNARD : Defendant Pleads Guilty in Bank Heist
An Oxnard man scheduled to go on trial this week for robbing a Thousand Oaks bank pleaded guilty just before the trial got under way, FBI officials said Wednesday.
James Martinez, 24, pleaded guilty Tuesday in U. S. District Court in Los Angeles to robbery, and aiding and abetting. He will be sentenced March 8.
Martinez had been charged in connection with the robbery of a 1st Nationwide Bank branch June 22. He was caught shortly after the robbery because an off-duty Sheriff’s Department deputy obtained the license plate number of the getaway vehicle, according to the FBI. The $4,039 taken in the robbery was recovered.
A co-defendant in the case, Robert Daniel Johnson, 22, of San Diego, pleaded guilty to bank robbery in August.
