Several leaders in public education are scheduled to speak, including state Sen. Gary Hart (D-Santa Barbara), chairman of the Senate Education Committee, and Assembly Education Committee Chairman Delaine Eastin (D-Fremont).

The purpose of the two-day event is to provide a forum to explore issues in public education and to build coalitions among schools, businesses and the community, said Lillian Raffel, Beverly Hills school board member.
