PLACENTIA, YORBA LINDA : Hearings Set on Rise in Builders’ Fee

Share

Public hearings on an increase in residential development fees will be held by the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Board of Trustees.

The proposed increase from $1.65 to $2.65 per square foot of assessable space was approved in an urgency ordinance of the school board in December. The board will vote on extending the urgency condition at its Monday board meeting, after a public hearing that will begin at 8 p.m.

If the ordinance is extended, the board will hold another public hearing Jan. 25 on a permanent increase in the fee. After that hearing, there will be a 60-day period during which residents may register comments regarding the increase. The increase will automatically become permanent after 60 days unless the board eliminates it.

According to Mike Bailey, director of facilities and planning for the school district, the increase would raise developer fees to a total of $6,203.65 for an average-size single-family detached house, and $2,687 for the average attached unit. Funds from developer fees must be used to build new schools or improve existing ones.

In other matters, the Board of Trustees has changed its meeting schedule for January. Meetings will be held on the second and fourth Mondays at the boardroom, 1301 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Placentia. The regular session begins at 7:30 p.m., with the public hearings scheduled for 8 p.m.

The board will resume its regular meeting schedule of second and fourth Tuesdays in February.
