LANCASTER : Residents List Gangs as Top Concern

Share

Lancaster residents’ top priorities for city officials include combatting the area’s growing gang problems and keeping residents better informed of city issues affecting them, according to the results of a new city survey.

Of more than 800 residents responding to the survey, done mostly by telephone, 457 named gang problems as an issue needing city attention, followed by better communication (412), incentives to help retain businesses (376) and broadening the local job base (373).

Residents were asked to rate their priorities in four separate categories: public safety, city government, economic development and education. They were not asked, for example, to prioritize gang problems versus job development.

The issues highlighted by residents will be studied by members of a group of recently formed volunteer task forces. The citizens group is expected to make recommendations to the City Council this spring.
