STATS CORNER: More evidence of the decline of mainstream hard rock can be found in the Pollstar magazine list of 1992’s top North Anerican concert tours. Besides the joint and separate tours by Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, only five hard-rock acts made the year’s Top 50--Ozzy Osbourne (No. 16), Def Leppard (No. 19), Tesla (No. 22), Van Halen (No. 23) and Skid Row (No. 42). Even added together, the five didn’t match 1992 leader U2’s total gross of $67 million.

In contrast, country music tours made up 11 of the Top 50, led, of course, by Garth Brooks, who came in at No. 14, with Reba McEntire just one place behind.
