NARAS Targets Colorado: The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences joined the shun-Colorado campaign Monday, suspending all scheduled events in that state to protest Colorado’s controversial new sexual orientation amendment. Academy president Michael Greene has canceled out as keynote speaker at the Jan. 29 Colorado Music Educators Assn.’s convention, and the academy suspended its Colorado Grammy in the Schools program, which sponsors free lectures, performances and workshops by professionals for students. Greene noted that the cancellation does not reflect on Colorado music educators “whose good works we wholeheartedly support” but that the move was in support of “many colleagues in music and education who support the invalidation of this amendment and an end to discriminatory legislation of all kinds.”
