High-Flying Freight: Burlington Air Express has won a three-year, $12-million extension of its air-freight contract with British Airways.

The initial contract called for Burlington to ship new aircraft parts between the United States and Britain and to return parts to any of British Airways’ 1,500 parts vendors when repairs are needed. The extension adds shipments from the United States to British Airways facilities in Australia and Hong Kong and calls for Burlington to beef up its existing shipping systems to meet the needs of British Airways’ urgent parts delivery.

Burlington Air Express, based in Irvine, is a subsidiary of Connecticut-based Pittston Co. Its worldwide cargo-express business generated $900 million in revenue for 1992.
