The military junta said it will detain opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi indefinitely because her release might lead to unrest in the country, formerly Burma. The question of Suu Kyi’s release will be left to the next government, an official said. Suu Kyi, 47, whose National League for Democracy overwhelmingly won elections in 1990 that were negated by the ruling junta, has been under house arrest since July, 1989.
