Jack D. Cogert; Retired Real Estate Broker

Jack D. Cogert, a longtime San Fernando Valley real estate broker, has died at a Reseda convalescent home. He was 85.
Cogert died Wednesday of complications of his advanced age, said his son, Alan Cogert of Canoga Park.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Cogert came to California in 1946 and ran a chicken ranch in Canoga Park. Two years later, he went into the real estate business, starting out at Arleta Realty. In the early 1960s, he moved his business to Sherman Oaks. Cogert retired in 1980.
He was former deputy chancellor of the Knights of Pythias Merriam Lodge and was president of the board of directors of the Merriam Federal Credit Union from the late 1960s until 1980.
In addition to his son, Alan, Cogert is survived by sons Harmon Cogert of Woodland Hills and Edwin Cogert of Encino; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His wife, Deborah Cogert, died in 1979.
A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Sholom Memorial Park, 13017 N. Lopez Canyon Road, San Fernando. Glasband-Willen Mortuary in North Hollywood is handling the arrangements.
