A Van Nuys woman was killed Saturday and three people were injured when a car crashed into a van near Val Verde, the California Highway Patrol said.

Eve Marie Escobar, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene at Chiquito Canyon Road and Henry Mayo Drive just after the 9:30 a.m. accident, the CHP said.

Escobar was a passenger in a van that was turning left from Chiquito Canyon Road onto Henry Mayo Drive when it was struck by a car headed west on the highway, said Officer Doug Villars.

The van’s driver, Carlos Lopez, 21, of Van Nuys, was treated for minor injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and released, the CHP said. The car’s driver, Javier Ruiz, 23, of Los Angeles, and his passenger, Anabell Acevedo, 19, of Los Angeles, also were treated for minor injuries and released.

Although the road was wet, weather conditions were not a major factor in the accident, Villars said.

The van, which was at a stop sign, failed to yield the right of way to the car, Villars said. But Lopez was not cited, he said.
