SIMI VALLEY : City Urges Groups to Apply for Grants

Share

Simi Valley officials are encouraging nonprofit organizations to apply for more than $500,000 in federal grants that the city plans to distribute.

The Community Development Block Grant funds, provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, are earmarked for programs that aid low- and moderate-income residents, help eliminate blight or provide other community services.

Among the groups that have received such grants in the past are Rainbow House, Simi Valley Family YMCA, Child Abuse and Neglect, Simi Valley Free Clinic, Interface, the Boys and Girls Club of Simi Valley and the Simi Valley Senior Center.

Applicants must show that their programs serve people who live in Simi Valley.

In past years, the total requested by applicants has exceeded the amount of money available.

The City Council will decide which groups will receive grants and how much each will get.

Organizations that wish to obtain the city’s guidelines for funding requests or want to apply for a grant can contact Brian Gabler, assistant to the city manager, at 583-6701 during weekday business hours.

Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. March 5.
