Border Collies

Share

Your generally informative article on border collies (Dec. 25) was outdated in one respect. I am pleased to say that the American Kennel Club-border collie dispute you discuss was settled amicably on July 31, 1992, when incoming AKC chairman of the board, John S. Ward, assured border-collie people that the AKC had no intention of fully recognizing the border collie.

Bred for centuries only for its herding abilities, the border collie is a genetic treasure. The AKC’s willingness to keep the dog out of the show ring will ensure its usefulness for future shepherds, ranchers and stockmen.
