Police have arrested the owner of two medical clinics in connection with the suspicious death of a patient, officials said Thursday.

Police were called to Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana on Tuesday to investigate the death of a 27-year-old Orange woman, Angela Cervantes.

Police said Cervantes had been to the Clinica Femenina de la Comunidad and the Family Health and Weight Control Center at 1320 S. Bristol St. before her death. Police on Wednesday arrested Alicia Ruiz Hanna, 31, of Santa Ana, the owner and operator of both facilities. Lt. Robert Helton said “there has been some indication (Cervantes) may have gone to this location to seek an abortion,” but he said that had not been confirmed.

She was taken later that day to Coastal Communities Hospital. It was not immediately clear when she died. A doctor’s autopsy on Cervantes’ cause of death was inconclusive, Helton said.

Police contacted the state Medical Board as part of their investigation. Medical Board investigators on Thursday declined to comment on the investigation.

Police closed both clinics, next door to each other, after Hanna’s arrest. Other employees at the clinics were questioned about the death, Helton said, but none was taken into custody.

Hanna was in Orange County Jail in Santa Ana in lieu of $250,000 bail.
