Sneaks ’93 : Last Year in Sneaks . . .

Share

We thought it might be fun/interesting/masochistic/embarrassing to go back over last year’s issue of Sneaks and see how we did picking what we thought would be the biggest (as opposed to the best) movies of 1992.

So, last year on the cover, we used a picture of Mike Myers from “Wayne’s World.” The movie became the first certifiable hit of 1992, eventually brought in $122 million at the box office and made everyone sick of hearing the word “NOT!”

Moving along to Page 3, we chose color photographs of 11 movies that we thought would be right up there with “Wayne’s World.”

Those that became box-office hits:

“Batman Returns,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” “League of Their Own” and “The Bodyguard.”

Those that became critical hits: “Malcolm X” and that’s about it.

Those that became neither hits nor misses: “Boomerang” and “Far and Away.”

Those that became, uh, misses: “Alien 3,” “1492: The Conquest of Paradise,” and “Chaplin.”

Plunging ahead to the rest of the films we picked as highlights of 1992:

“Mambo Kings,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” “Patriot Games,” “Unforgiven,” “A Few Good Men,” “A River Runs Through It,” “The Best Intentions.”

And, . . . uh . . . “Man Trouble.”
