GUTTING THE GOSPEL

Share

Humanity always defends that which is pleasing and easy to accept, while seeking to discredit anything uncomfortable, challenging or unpleasant. A perfect example is how we view Jesus Christ (“The Gospel Truth,” by Tom McNichol, Dec. 13).

Note what most of the academics in the Jesus Seminar say is acceptable to believe: Christ was compassionate, thought-provoking, loving and constantly fighting for the downtrodden--enough to give us a warm fuzzy feeling about this Jesus fellow.

Compare that to what they refute. They say that Jesus was not the son of God. He did not talk about a final judgment. He was not the Messiah. He did not work miracles. He was not prophetic.

How convenient to gut the essence of Christianity and replace it with academia. That way, we don’t have to worry about faith; we don’t have to live for anyone but ourselves; we don’t have to consider a final judgment.
