Music Winners: The late jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and classical composer Witold Lutoslawski were named joint winners Tuesday in Stockholm of the 1993 Polar Music Prize. The prize, worth $280,000 this year, was established in 1992 by Stikkan Andersson, who once managed the Swedish rock band ABBA. Gillespie died Jan. 6 at age 75. Lutoslawski, of Poland, is still an active composer and conductor of modernistic symphony music at age 80. The prizes will be awarded in Stockholm on May 18 by Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf. Gillespie’s prize will be accepted in his memory by fellow trumpet titan Wynton Marsalis.
